The Dating Game Gets Partisan, With Politics a Deal Breaker

Picking a perfect mate is never easy, but it seems that these days it is becoming downright impossible.  The Dating Game Gets Partisan, With Politics a Deal Breaker by Elizabeth Williamson shows just how divided America currently is regarding politics.  By using the mode of discourse comparison/contrast, two singles from opposite sides of the political spectrum are analyzed.  The author evaluates the reasons why both feel so strongly about their beliefs.  In many ways, it is because they are more similar than different.  The Democrats and Republicans would rather have someone with a different religion, lower attractiveness, or lower education than have to deal with the opposite party.  Why?  In this day and age people feel so strongly about their political beliefs that it causes too much controversy.  Both clients from the dating agency are middle-aged and once divorced, therefore making an understanding argument for rather being safe than sorry before diving into another marriage.  The interesting part of the article is that if it were not for politics, the two people interviewed would likely be matched up together.  The author indicates that the amount of fuss over this presidential race is getting out of hand.  At this point, the battle between red and blue is strikingly similar to that of the Civil War.
