After reading and re-reading the informational book Beauty Pageants: At Issue, I started to find the various amount of authors interesting. In my last post, I explained in great detail the set-up of the book which basically involves sixteen chapters, each written by a different person. The purpose of this is to allow the reader to have multiple perspectives on the issue of beauty pageants as a whole instead of just reading one side of a multiple perspective topic. The authors of each chapter have their own unique background. A couple were of course former beauty contestants while others were just journalists with a keen interest in the subject. Most of the women were feminists that opposed the world of pageantry, but the book also incorporated one who was not a former beauty queen but did support pageants as a good thing in society. However, the most intriguing stories were from the male authors perspectives. Out of the sixteen chapters, four of them were male driven. Three of these had a negative view of pageants and did not appreciate the scandal, sex, and seediness that surrounds them. I thought it was strange that one of these men did support this world, but upon further inspection the reason was clear. He was a beauty pageant founder, therefore making him no different than the contestants that graced these stages.
